MS Dhoni is currently on a break after playing for India in the Asia Cup, which the Men in Blue won for the seventh time in the tournament’s history. The 37-year-old is set to be back in India’s upcoming ODI and T20I series against Windies, which gets underway on October 21, at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati after the conclusion of the two-match Test series.
In the meantime, the veteran has decided to play domestic cricket. The experienced wicketkeeper-batsman will play for Jharkhand in the knockout phase of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy and the same was confirmed by MSK Prasad, the chairman of selectors in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Thursday as per reports in Sportstar.
Dhoni needs to find form
Jharkhand finished atop the points table in Elite Group C with 32 points courtesy of seven victories from nine matches. Haryana also qualified from the group. The knockout phases are set to start on Sunday, October 14. Dhoni last played for Jharkhand in the 2017 edition of the 50-overs tournament when he captained the side in the semi-final in New Delhi.
However, his team lost the match by 41 runs despite his knock of 70 runs from 62 balls during the run chase. The inning was laced with a couple of boundaries and four sixes. Shreevats Goswami and Abhimanyu Easwaran’s twin centuries guided Bengal to a victory. Dhoni’s form in international cricket hasn’t been overwhelming by any means of late.
Hence, he would be hoping to score big in the domestic matches and find some rhythm before the white-ball matches against the Caribbean team. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, the Indian top-order batsman, isn’t a part of the Test squad and is available for selection for Mumbai. Recently, Rohit captained the Indian team to glory in the Asia Cup in the UAE.
