The Vijay Hazare Trophy is throwing quite a lot of surprising results this season and on Wednesday, there were quite a few results that no one saw coming. Some big sides like Vidarbha, Delhi and Karnataka bowed down to the unlikeliest of opponents, stretching the tournament wide open for all the teams in the house.

Karnataka took on Baroda in Bangalore and the hosts batted first. Ravikumar Samarth’s hundred helped them crawl to 237 runs, but the star of the innings was Atit Sheth, who registered figures of 4/42 for Baroda. In reply, Kedar Devdhar struck yet another hundred in a span of days to guide his side to a stunning 7-wicket win.

Defending Ranji champions Vidarbha bowed down to a spirited Himachal Pradesh contingent, who probably caused the biggest upset of the tournament thus far. Atharva Taide’s 147 and Faiz Fazal’s 91 helped Vidarbha notch 297 runs batting first. But Ankush Bains’ mind-boggling 173 nullified both their efforts and fetched Himachal a priceless 4-wicket win.

Odisha stuns Delhi in a rain-marred affair

Delhi hosted another big surprise of the day as the hosts went down to Odisha in a hard-fought encounter. The match was reduced to a 48 overs per side affair after rain gods’ involvement, which saw Odisha score 249 runs batting first. In reply, a sensational collective bowling effort from Odisha was good enough to see off Delhi, who fell 9 runs short of the target.

Maharashtra, on the other hand, continued their good run of form. Batting first, Railways posted a 181-run target for the on-song side, who chased it down quite easily. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the star of the show with a brilliant 93-ball 84.

Chhattisgarh and Andhra played out an absolute cracker in Delhi. Batting first, Chhattisgarh scored 248 runs banking on Ashutosh Singh’s ton. Just when Andhra lost their way chasing the total in the middle overs, Karn Sharma chipped in with a quickfire fifty and they chased the total down exactly off the final ball of the innings, winning the game by 2 wickets.
