Match Details:

The Round 4 match in the Elite Group C of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 will be played between Tamil Nadu and Bihar at the Jaipuria Vidhyalaya Ground in Jaipur.

The match starts at 9:00 AM local time (IST) (3:30 AM GMT)

Preview:

Tamil Nadu were one lucky side to get both their matches completed without any interruption in this Vijay Hazare Trophy. They defeated a strong Rajasthan team in their first game where they chased down 262 with contributions from all the top-order batsmen. Dinesh Karthik, the newly appointed Tamil Nadu skipper, took his team home with an unbeaten fifty in the game played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Karthik followed it with a 91-ball 95 against Services to guide his side to 294/8 from 55/4. He shared a 144-run partnership with C Hari Nishanth (73) while the lower-order added quick runs to the total. K Vignesh’s 5-wicket haul rattled the opponents to just 82. They will now take on Bihar who began with a defeat against Railways. Bihar were 84 runs behind the VJD par score of 239/6 after 43 overs.

Weather Condition/Report:

Saturday could witness thunderstorm with rain in Jaipuria Vidhayala Ground. The weather forecast, however, doesn’t indicate major chances of rain during the match timings. At least a minimum of 20 overs aside is possible.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The Jaipuria Vidhyalaya Ground in Jaipur has hosted three List A matches; all in this ongoing edition of Vijay Hazare. The games on the first two days recorded scores around 260 but on Friday, only 108 were made by the side batting first. It seemed as if the pacers got help from the track as the chasing side lost seven wickets.

Average first innings score: 210 (List A matches)

Record of chasing teams: Won – 1, Lost – 2

Injury and Availability News:

Murali Vijay might join the team on Friday evening and could be rested for this game.

Vijay Shankar is recovering from a thumb injury while Washington Sundar could be part of the XI soon.

J Kousik is unavailable due to the injury.

Bench: MS Washington Sundar, Vijay Shankar, Murali Vijay, J Kousik, M Siddharth, Abhishek Tanwar.

Bench: Vikash Yadav, Utkarsh Bhaskar, Aditya Kumar, Nikku Singh.

Top Picks:

N Jagadeesan hasn’t got a big score yet but could come up with a big score against Bihar if they bat first. Shasheem Rathour played for Jharkhand in the previous season and scored an attractive fifty in the quarter-final. He scored an unbeaten 81 in the first game while no other Bihar batsman even scored five runs in the top-5. The pace of K Vignesh and M Mohammed could turn out to be a bit too much for the Bihar players.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Captain – N Jagadeesan, Baba Aparajith, Dinesh Karthik, Ashutosh Aman

Vice-Captain – M Mohammed, T Natarajan, K Vignesh, Shasheem Rathour

Batting at No.3 and bowling few overs does make Baba Aparajith a perfect option as captain or vice-captain.

Suggested Playing XI for Head to Head/Small Leagues:

Keeper – Dinesh Karthik (VC), N Jagadeesan

Batsmen – Baba Aparajith (C), Abhinav Mukund, MD Rahmatullah

All-Rounders – Shasheem Rathour

Bowlers – Murugan Ashwin, Ashutosh Aman, Vivek Kumar, T Natarajan, K Vignesh

Suggested Playing XI for Grand Leagues/Mega Leagues:

Keeper – Dinesh Karthik, N Jagadeesan (C)

Batsmen – Baba Aparajith, C Hari Nishaanth, Babul Kumar

All-Rounders – Shasheem Rathour

Bowlers – M Mohammed, Ashutosh Aman, Samar Quadri, T Natarajan, K Vignesh (VC)

Expert Advice:

Fantasy teams can be filled with Tamil Nadu’s top-order and their bowling attack. During the last season’s quarter-final against Mumbai, the Bihar team was bundled out for just 69 and let the opposition chase down the target with 225 balls to spare. This shows how they could struggle against a bigger side.

Probable Winners:

Tamil Nadu is expected to register their 3rd consecutive win of the tournament.
