Day two of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017 came to an end and there were some brilliant performances. The stand out of them being an MS Dhoni century. The former Indian skipper led Jharkhand from the front in their second fixture. Dhoni after being stripped down from the captaincy of his IPL team is back in action as the skipper for his state side.
Jharkhand were struggling at 43/5 against Chhattisgarh when the skipper came in and scored a brilliant century to give them a decent target to defend. The eastern side ended their innings on a notable 243 runs for the loss of nine wickets with Dhoni and Shahbaz Nadeem stitching a 151-run stand. He scored 123 runs in just 107 deliveries hitting ten fours and six maximums in the process. On the other hand, Nadeem managed a stable half century in 90 deliveries. He scores 53 runs (4 fours, 1 six).
Chhattisgarh were brilliant with the ball until Dhoni entered. Abhuday Singh was the pick of the bowlers from the Chhattisgarh camp. He snatched a four-for giving away just 33 runs in his quota of 10 overs. Pankaj Rao also grabbed three wickets. Jharkhand, on the other hand, were brilliant with the ball. They never let their opponent out of sight. Chhattisgarh batsmen were not at their best as they lost wickets at regular intervals. They were all out for 165 and Jharkhand won the game by 78 runs. Varun Aaron picked 3 wickets for 26 while Nadeem gave 36 for as many strikes.
Mumbai registered their second win as they beat Rajasthan by five wickets. They bowled well in the first innings to restrict the Rajasthan team for only 181. Shardul Thakur impressed the most with the ball as he stole a three-for. Shivan Malhotra and Shivam Dubey also did their jobs as none of the Rajasthan batsmen could get going.
Mahipal Lomror top-scored for the losing side as he missed out on a half-century by just a run. The Ranji trophy runner-ups batted with vigor and cruised all the way through their innings only to lose a few wickets at the end of the game.
Maharashtra also registered their second victory as they outclassed Kerala. The Kedar Jadhav led team was put into bat by Kerala and it proved to be the wrong decision as the young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad batted well for 79 and gave Maharashtra a good start. The skipper Kedar Jadhav also smashed a quickfire 71 of 48 deliveries as he made sure Maharashtra have a commendable target to defend. They eventually ended up with a 311 on the board.
Kerala were miserable with the bat as they only managed to score 189 handing Maharashtra a 122-run victory. Pradeep Dadhe was the best bowler as he grabbed a four-for and helped the western side to a massive win.
