Vijay Mallya spotted entering The Oval during fifth Test between England and India
He has more often visited the stadium to watch India's matches in England.
Disgraced Indian tycoon Vijay Mallya is in no mood to give up his love for cricket, the fans booing him notwithstanding. The man was spotted entering The Oval on Day 1 of the fifth and final Test between England and India on Friday to cheer Virat Kohli & Co. The first day of the game saw the visitors making a comeback after the hosts had a good start. England were 198 for 7 at the end of the day with Alastair Cook’s 71 as their highest individual score.
This is not the first time that the 62-year-old fugitive liquor baron has been found arriving for a cricket match involving India. He was at the same venue last year during the Champions Trophy when the Men in Blue took on South Africa where Mallya was even booed over the allegations of financial irregularities against him.
Visited to watch India-Pakistan game
He was also seen in Birmingham when India faced their arch-rivals Pakistan in the same tournament and was present at a charity dinner where the Indian side led by Virat Kohli reportedly maintained a safe distance from him. Mallya is the ex-owner of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore which is currently led by Kohli.
During this tour, Mallya was spotted cheering India when they played a practice match as well ahead of Test series which started on August 1. He also met Kohli and the picture of the same had gone viral.
Here’s the video:
Mallya fled India in March 2016 after failing to pay back loans to the bank and the issue has rocked India’s domestic affairs ever since with both the government and opposition trading charges. Amid growing demands in India to extradite Mallya from the UK, the Westminster Magistrate’s Court in London adjourned the proceedings on the case against him on July 31.
The proceedings are set to resume on September 12. It was earlier said that Mallya had offered to settle the dues by selling his assets worth Rs 13,900 crore.
