The Indian squad for the upcoming triangular series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has recently been announced. Vijay Shankar, the Tamil Nadu cricketer, has found a place in the upcoming T20 series. The pace bowling all-rounder has been in prime form owing to which he has been drafted in by the team management for the Nidahas Trophy.
The cricketer has also been bagged by the Delhi Daredevils in the recently concluded IPL Auction in Bangalore. Virat Kohli has stated that the management wants to groom Shankar as a backup of Hardik Pandya, the Baroda all-round cricketer. The 27-year player has also been compared to Pandya, however, Shankar mentioned that he isn’t bothered by the hype around him in a recent media interaction.
Shankar- A calm and composed character
“I don’t give much importance to that (laughs). Pressure is something that is going to be there all the time when you step on to the ground. You have to be calm and play the same way you play everywhere. Every cricketer has something special to give. As cricketers, we look up to everyone. We can learn from everyone and it’s not about comparing,” Shankar was quoted as saying by Indo Asian News Service.
The cricketer also emphasized the significance of domestic cricket as a stepping stone to graduate to the next level. “I always see domestic (cricket) as a very important stage because whenever I do well I get that confidence of getting to the next level from there. So it is very important for me to do well in the domestic matches, Shankar added.
Vijay Shankar has shown exemplary form recently and will be looking to replicate his form in the Nidahas Trophy. The opening game of the tournament will be played between India and Sri Lanka on March 6 at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
