The KSCA Stadium (Navule) at Shivamogga is all set to become a regular fixture for the first-class games of Karnataka in the near future. The home side played their first ever domestic match against Hyderabad in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season and won the game by 59 runs in a closely fought contest. The skipper of Karnataka Vinay Kumar is pleased with the new venue and has expressed his desire to play more first-class games in the new Stadium.

Karnataka State Cricket Association has owned the new Stadium and it is the latest addition to the list of venues in the State. Previously, the matches in Shivamogga were held at PES Institute of Technology and Management ground and Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering ground. But now there is every possibility that the new venue might host maximum first-class games. The crowd support also becomes a massive factor at this venue and the positive feedback from the players might also work in its favour.

Happy occasion for Vinay Kumar

Vinay Kumar was extremely pleased to come back in the city where he studied when he was a young boy. “We thoroughly enjoyed playing here. I went to school here until my third standard. After that, our family moved to Davangere (around 90 km from Shivamogga). It felt great to come back and play here. The ground is very good too – the pavilion and dressing room is very nice. The crowd support is more at districts when compared to Bengaluru. People here have fewer opportunities to watch first-class cricket,” he said as quoted by sportstarlive.

He also felt that young and upcoming cricketers will get a chance to watch and learn from their idols if more matches are arranged at the venue. “Young budding cricketers get a chance to watch and learn from their idols. It will be good if more matches are played in districts,” Vinay added. As of now according to organisers, the stadium will host one first-class fixture every season.
