There are so many stories of the friendship of the duo from their initial cricketing days. They had put on a world record partnership of 664 runs in school cricket. Playing for Shardashram Vidyamandir against St Xavier’s High School, Fort in the Harris Shield semi-final played at Sassanian ground at Azad Maidan, Tendulkar scored 326 and Kambli made 349 as both remained unbeaten.
It was the match where the two youngsters announced their arrival. Although it was just school cricket, something of that stature had never happened before in the world. That’s the reason the two hit the limelights after the staggering effort. The movie had a scene where the two were seen hammering the opposition bowlers who were not willing to come into the attack.
Tendulkar made it to the Indian squad first and Kambli too followed soon. Both were being seen as the future of Indian cricket. Where Tendulkar reached the peaks of the international cricket, Kambli failed to match the prowess of his mate. Even though the left-hander had a great start to his international career, he couldn’t build upon it and was removed from the side.
There was a marked difference in the attitude of the two from the beginning. Where Tendulkar remained humble and maintained dignity even after becoming the most famous cricketer of all time, Kambli failed to manage the stardom and got caught in the dark side of the game.
