Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers are my favorite players, I want to play for RCB in IPL: Dewald Brevis
Dewald Brevis' blitzes have earned him nicknames like ‘ABD 2.0’ or 'Baby AB.'
Dewald Brevis of South Africa is certainly making a lot of noise in the ongoing ICC Under19 World Cup 2022 in West Indies. The dasher has played one sensational knock after another as South Africa advanced to the playoff semi-final. With 362 runs in four games, in fact, Brevis ended the league-stage as the leading run-scorer. This also includes a blistering century.
His batting style has drawn comparisons with former South African captain AB de Villiers, and the youngster is overwhelmed with the fact. In fact, his blitzes have earned him nicknames like ‘ABD 2.0’ or ‘Baby AB.’ With De Villiers arguably being the best batter in the history of the game, many eyes will be on Brevis in the coming times. Well, the right-handed batter is certainly determined to embrace the challenge.
My biggest dream is to play for the Proteas: Dewald Brevis
Speaking of his future plans, Brevis said he wants to represent South Africa in all three formats of the game. Alongside that, he also wishes to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with De Villiers and Virat Kohli being two of his most favourite players.
“For me, the biggest dream is to play for the Proteas and then I am such a big fan of the IPL, I would love to play for RCB because AB (de Villiers) and (Virat) Kohli are there,” said Brevis in a video posted on the official website of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
“Also, all the other T20 competitions around the world. I want to be recognized as an all-rounder with my leg-spin bowling. I want to play all three formats,” he added.
Meanwhile, it must be noted that De Villiers, who served RCB from 2011 to 2021, has retired from all forms of professional cricket. Hence, RCB won’t be able to avail his services from the next season onwards. This means Brevis has a possible chance to fill his idol’s shoes if given the opportunity.
Meanwhile, Brevis’ love for RCB dates long back. There are several pictures on social media where the young South African batter can be seen sporting the franchise’s jersey and gear. However, his primary target would be taking South Africa to glory in the ongoing competition.
