The ousted Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh feels that Virat Kohli can score 20000 Test runs if he continues to play in the same way in whites. The Indian skipper is on a record-breaking spree currently and smashed back to back double centuries in the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka. However, the legendary off-spinner was all praise of Kohli for changing the way Indian cricket is being played in the modern era.
Kohli will now enjoy few days off as he has been rested from the ODI and T20I series against the team from the island nation. He has been constantly playing since returning from the shoulder injury he sustained during the Test series against Australia earlier this year. But his form with the bat across all formats hasn’t dipped at all. Moreover, he has taken his level of performance a notch higher and is now expected to score a century everytime he steps onto the field.
Ganguly is the best captain I played under
Harbhajan Singh was speaking during a cricket show on news channel ‘Sports Tak’ on which the likes of Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Aakash Chopra were also present. Bhajji had predicted earlier in 2010 when Indian team was in South Africa that Virat Kohli will score around 10000 Test runs in his career. Interestingly, the current Indian skipper was yet to make his debut in the format. Though the off-spinner now feels that he should have predicted more at that time.
“I think I predicted less. He already had the ability of scoring 10000 runs and now he has the ability to score 20000 runs. Kohli has created records on his own which were never made by anyone in the history of the game. The way he has brought the fitness trend, the way he has been leading from the front, the way he has batted in his career so far is absolutely magnificent. He has also been disciplined off the field which is impeccable,” he said while praising the 29-year-old.
“I have played under many captains and the best captain of India I feel is Sourav Ganguly who took the reins of the team after the match-fixing scandal which had plagued the Indian cricket. Now the same legacy has been carried forward by Virat which is a wonderful journey. I wish him all the luck. He has got a great head on his shoulders and I am sure he won’t do anything which will affect his or team’s performance,” Bhajji concluded.
