Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are their own coaches: Simon Katich

IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore has two batting maestro in their squad in the form of AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. Both the cricketers are considered as the best batsmen to have played the gentlemen’s game and there is almost nothing that a coach can teach them about their game. 

Thus, when RCB’s head coach Simon Katich was questioned regarding his experience of collaborating with Virat and AB, the former Australian cricketer reckoned that the two players are their own coaches as they have played so much of cricket at the international level and are well-aware about all the aspects of their game.

However, Katich also revealed that the skipper Virat Kohli is always looking forward to learning more about his game and keeps on asking about the things he can improve upon. “They (Virat & AB de Villiers) are their own coaches because they know their game – and the game – inside out because of the volume of cricket they’ve played, Virat still wants to learn, though, and is always asking if we can see anything that might improve his game, but a player of his caliber, there is not a lot wrong with his game,” Simon Katich said as quoted by Sportskeeds.

Further in the interaction, the 45-year-old lavished praises on the Indian skipper for his dedication to the game. Simon hailed Virat as the most professional player he has ever seen as believes that Kohli leaves no stone unturned when it comes to gym work, nutrition, recovery, and rehab.

“What I learned very quickly is that Virat is probably the most professional player I’ve ever seen, and that is saying something when you think about the era of Australian cricket I played in (2001-2010), Whether that is in the gym or with his nutrition or all the recovery and rehab work you do, he leaves no stone unturned. A lot of players do that but he takes it to the nth degree,” the former Australian international added.

In the past years, many questions have been raised for the leadership skills of Virat as he has failed to direct RCB to its maiden IPL title. However, the head coach seemed impressed with the 32-year-old’s captaincy as he termed Kohli as a magnificent leader.

“From a leadership perspective, what stood out was his (Kohli’s) will to win and will to compete. As a leader, you can’t ask much more than that. He was magnificent,” Katich added.
