Ever since the Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir got engaged in an ugly clash during the IPL 2013, fans generally have had this perception that both do not share a good relationship. Most of them certainly believe that there is an ego clash between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir.
What happened during the RCB v KKR match in 2013 stunned the fans. Kohli’s remark while returning back to the pavilion after losing his wicket did not go down well with Gambhir and a heated verbal clash followed.
Both the individuals later played down the incident saying it happened in the heat of the moment and there is no bitterness. But media reports and fans speculations always suggested that both of them were not in good terms.
Gambhir has now made a comeback to the Tests squad and will be playing under the leadership of Kohli tomorrow. Injuries to KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan helped the veteran left-hander to return to the team after two years.
His comeback made a lot of waves. But, there was a question in the mind of the fans when the selection news came out. It was – Will both the players get along? Speculation always remains until there is any clear evidence that would put all the gossips to rest
It seems one of Gambhir’s close friend has the clarification needed to put all the doubts to rest.
“It’s the sheer desire to win at all costs that brought out the conflict between Virat and Gautam. In fact, both he and Virat dined in his Taj Gardenia hotel room the day they fought in Bangalore in 2013, but sadly, these things never get reported.
“Both admire each other and Gambhir calls Virat `Cheeks,’ while Virat addresses him as `Bhaiya.’ Both love Man United (Manchester United) and PlayStations, and are even currently together in the gym in Indore with Team India trainer Shanker Basu,” the close friend revealed to the TOI.
The friend went on to clarify Gambhir’s take on biopics, which had nothing to do with Dhoni’s.
He also clarified that Gambhir wasn’t taking a pot-shot at Dhoni when he tweeted recently that saying sportspersons didn’t deserve to have biopics made on them. The tweet created stir in social media.
The friend clarified, “He never tweeted against any individual’s movie. All he said was that the Indian soldiers deserve a biopic more than a sportsperson. He doesn’t feel that MSD was responsible for his exit,“ he says.
It was also revealed Gambhir is wanted to join the Territorial Army a few years back.
