Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni share a light moment during the net session
Kohli has always been highly appreciative of the wicketkeeper batsman's presence in the team.
The One-Day International series began with the hosts registering a fantastic six-wicket victory against Australia. After winning the T20I series 2-nil, the visitors posted a total of 236/7 after electing to bat first. The Indian bowlers bowled clinically and picked wickets at regular intervals to keep the Aussies in check at all times.
The Men in Blue didn’t begin well as opener Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for a golden duck. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were back to the pavilion early as India found themselves in a spot of bother at 99/4. This is when an unbeaten 141-run partnership between Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni sealed the deal for the hosts. India now lead the five-match series 1-0 with the next game in Nagpur.
Skipper Kohli and former Captain Cool share a great bond on and off the field. During the practice session ahead of the next contest, both champion cricketers were witnessed sharing laughter in the nets. Kohli has always been highly appreciative of the wicketkeeper batsman’s presence in the team. At the same time, Dhoni too has been a guiding light for Kohli during pressure situations. Both have backed each other constantly even during failures.
Here’s a video of Dhoni and Kohli sharing a laugh:
MS Dhoni has been in scintillating form this year. After a poor 2018 that raised many doubts about his future, the former captain has shut all his detractors with the recent performances. The 37-year-old will be looking to maintain his great record at the VCA stadium where he has registered two centuries including one against Australia.
Kohli too has remained quiet for some time now. The No.1 ranked ODI batsman would be willing to register a big knock and help his team gain a further edge in the series. The 30-year-old had played a well-defined knock of 115 (66)* at the same ground in 2013 as India successfully chased down a target of 351 runs against Australia.
