Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni want salary cap applied to uncapped players
As per both these players, the players who do not get the opportunity to feature in the IPL needs to be compensated well so that they do not lose confidence.
Indian Premier League is an amazing event held by the BCCI over the years. It has its own pros and cons. Players like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have become a very vital cog in the Indian cricket. They’ve broken through the Indian side with their brilliance in the IPL. In the 2013 edition of the IPL, the fixing scandal broke and It shook the cricketing world as three players Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were arrested by the Delhi Police.
But more or less, IPL has helped Indian cricket. It has also helped the uncapped cricketers as well. During the last year’s bidding process of the IPL, some players saw money being showered on them. T Natarajan, an uncapped player was bought by Kings XI Punjab for a whopping 3 Crore. Mohammed Siraj went to Hyderabad for 2.6 Crore and Krishnappa Gowtham was bought by Mumbai Indians for 2 Crores.
IPL 2018, which will be the 11th edition of the tournament will see players being auctioned one more time. But this time around we might not get to witness money being showered on the uncapped players as both current and former Indian skipper have suggested the BCCI to lock an amount and that will be the highest amount which they can get.
Here’s what a BCCI source has to say
As per Kohli and Dhoni, the huge amount of money coming their way can make them take the domestic leagues in India lightly. A BCCI source said to Indian Express, “A classic case was Cariappa, who was bought by KKR for Rs 2.4 crore in 2015. He had played a few games in the Karnataka Premier League but hadn’t played for the Karnataka Ranji side. It really sends a wrong message to all first-class players. On one side we have some who play non-stop Ranji Trophy games and earn only 10-12 lakh in an entire season, and here comes a boy who is getting so much. Kohli and Dhoni felt it wasn’t right and BCCI should keep a salary cap on these uncapped players.”
MS Dhoni who retired from Tests in 2013 has been playing for his domestic side Jharkhand every now and then. Dhoni and Kohli both have asked the BCCI to look into the matter. As per both these players, the players who do not get the opportunity to feature in the IPL needs to be compensated well so that they do not lose confidence.
