Neeraj Chopra created history in the Tokyo Olympics by bagging a gold medal for India in the Men’s Javelin throw. It also capped off India’s memorable run in the Olympics as Chopra became the seventh player to win a medal for India in the global event. Apart from the 23-year-old, Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindu, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, India Men’s hockey team, Lovlina Borgohain, Bajrang Punia won silver, bronze, silver, bronze, bronze, and bronze respectively.

This is India’s best performance individually and as well as team-wise and the cricketing fraternity, celebrities, and critics lauded the performances of India’s winners in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Jumping into the bandwagon, Indian skipper Virat Kohli too took to social media and lauded the efforts of the athletes for their stupendous performances. If Chopra was as precise in the first two javelin throws, then Dahiya was defiant and resilient in all matches. The Indian hockey men’s was the story of the Olympics as they finally won the medal after 41 years.

PV Sindhu went back to back by bagging another one after her Rio Silver medal in the 2016 Olympics by winning bronze this time. Even Aditi Ashok made all the Indians proud by finishing fourth in the Golf. The 23-year-old played her second Olympics and displayed patience, flair, and determination.

In the message posted on his official Instagram account, Kohli congratulated the winners and wrote a fitting caption to describe the journeys of the eight winners. “Congratulations to all our winners and participants at the Olympics. Winning and losing is a part of the sport, but what matters is you gave your best for the nation. We are so proud of you and I wish you all the very best going forward. Jai Hind.”

Rain enables first Test finishes in a draw

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team who were battling against England in the first Test match at Trent Bridge, could not chase the target set by the home team as the match ended in a draw. The rain washed away all the proceedings of day five and the first of the five-match Test series ended in a draw. The action now shifts to Lord’s and both the teams will hope the rain doesn’t play spoilsport.
