Virat Kohli asks Mayank Agarwal to convert his double ton into a triple
There has been no stopping Mayank after Imrul Kayes dropped him off Abu Jayed at the fag end of Day 1 in Indore.
Mayank Agarwal has had to wait for a long time before foraying into Team India. It was only after he racked up tons and tons of runs at the domestic circuit that he went on to make his Test debut at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground against Australia. After his first 12 innings of his career, it can be said that he has grabbed the chance with both hands, racking up the runs with sheer authority.
Back in October, he scored his maiden Test ton against South Africa and converted it into a double ton in Visakhapatnam. The Karnataka batsman has now carried over his form versus Bangladesh as well. At the Holkar Stadium in Indore, he has been unstoppable. The Tigers mostly employed four bowlers, out of which only Abu Jayed threatened to make an impact picking up four wickets.
Mayank Agarwal thrashes Bangladesh
Ebadot Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam looked lacklustre. The visitors didn’t have Mustafizur Rahman either, making it an inexperienced attack for Bangladesh. Agarwal got a reprieve at the fag end of Day 1 when Imrul Kayes dropped him in the slip cordon of Rahi. From there on, the batter went from strength to strength. The 28-year-old made the Tigers pay, scoring a century.
In the third session, Mayank racked up his second double century. In the first four balls of the 99th over, Agarwal played four dot deliveries off Mehidy. He was on 196 at that stage and in the fifth ball, he ran down the track and deposited the spinner for a six over the wide long-on area. Then, he raised his bat in ecstasy and even his mates from inside the dressing room stood up and applauded.
On the other hand, Kayes would’ve been ruing the missed chance on the first day. Skipper Kohli was elated by Agarwal, racking up the double ton. He made a gesture with his right hand, asking Mayank to convert his double century into a triple. Interestingly, after Mayank scored his ton, Virat asked him to get a double and he obliged. He eventually got out to Mehidy after scoring 243 runs.
