Virat Kohli beats Sachin Tendulkar in Twitter popularity in 2017
Kohli saw his follower base increasing by 61 percent to 20.8 million (as of December 5), from 12.9 million in 2016.
The last month of 2017 totally belongs to 29-year-old Virat Kohli, who not only trampled the opposition by scoring runs on the field but has also been able to steal the heart of his fans. As per a Twitter report capturing trends in 2017, Kohli saw his follower base increasing by 61 percent to 20.8 million (as of December 5), from 12.9 million in 2016.
The report released also told that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has topped the 2017 list of Most followed Indians on Twitter, with 37.5 million followers (increasing base by 52 percent). On the other hand, Actor Amitabh Bachchan is second on the list with more than 31.6 million people following him on micro-blogging site. Interestingly, PM Modi is the only politician on the top 10 list.
Top 10 list, a mix of Bollywood and Cricket
Cricket Master Blaster, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar saw a growth of 56 percent in his followers base on micr0-blogging site Twitter this year. This is the first time when Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar have made their way into the top-10 list of most followed Indians.
The list was dominated by Actor Salaman Khan and Shahrukh Khan, who saw their fan base grow at 40 percent each. However, Shahrukh Khan finished with 30.9 million followers, as compared to 28.5 million followers of Salman Khan.
The only female to feature on Twitter’s list was Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who was ranked seventh with 22.1 million followers. The data also showed that the all-important ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final between arch-rivals India and Pakistan was the most tweeted One Day match ever in the history of Twitter with 1.8 million tweets.
