Team India skipper, Virat Kohli, continued his domination on the modern day cricket with yet another thumping ton to his name. The stylish Indian cricketer has made it a habit to score a century every now and then. This is pretty much evident from the fact that Kohli now has 50 international centuries to his name. He has been on a record breaking spree.
His most recent ton, which came against Sri Lanka in the second innings of the Kolkata Test, has helped him scale up quite a few notches higher among his colleagues of the game. Kohli now averages over 50 in Test cricket after having scored an unbeaten 104 in the Kolkata Test. Virat Kohli is the only cricketer to have an average in excess of 50 in all the three formats of the game now.
For the numbers
Kohli, who has 18 Test centuries to his name now, averages 50.13 at the moment in the longest format of the game. Talking about the ODIs – Kohli’s preferred format of play – sees him average 55.74 with the bat. Kohli has hit 32 ODI centuries thus far and is a top contender to break the herculean record of most ODI tons set by Sachin Tendulkar.
In the shortest format of the game, Virat Kohli becomes an even better player. He is the number one ranked batsman in the format and averages a whopping 52.86 in the T20Is. Albeit Kohli has hit 4 T20 centuries (all in the IPL), a T20I ton still awaits him. With the kind of form he is in, expect that to be happening some time soon as well. Here are the averages of Kohli in all the three formats:
Test: 50.13
ODI: 55.74
T20I: 52.86
It was a case of records galore for Kohli when he hit his 50th international ton. It was his 11th Test ton as the Indian captain – the joint highest number of tons for an Indian captain in the format along with Sunil Gavaskar.
