Virat Kohli becomes the first Indian captain to score a hundred and a duck in the same Test match

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten ton in the second innings of the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka in Kolkata. He returned to the form in the longest format of the game after ruling the world in the coloured clothing. His last major score had come in Bengaluru when he had slammed a double century in February. However, he became the first Indian captain and 18th overall to score a century and a duck in the same match.

Kohli was dismissed for a duck off eleven deliveries on the first day of the Test match when only around 12 overs were played due to rain. He was caught in front by Suranga Lakmal on a day when the ball did all kind of tricks on a green wicket. In the second innings, he came out on the last day after the fall of the wicket of KL Rahul and survived a few close calls in the morning session. He went about his business and rotated the strike without missing out on the bad balls.

After lunch, he played more strokes as wickets continued to tumble around him. Moreover, Kohli was more animated after the Wriddhiman Saha failed to stay in the middle with him. He opened his arms and attacked every bowler that came his way eventually getting to his 18th Test century with a wonderful six over long off to become only the first Indian captain to turn around his fortunes after scoring a duck in the first innings of a Test match. He also celebrated in a fierce manner to announce his return in the form in the format after going seven innings without a half-century.

Kohli averages 50 across formats

Virat Kohli continued to thrill the cricketing experts and his fans with his batting in 2017 as well. His 18th century in the whites took his average in the longest format over 50 which meant he is the only player currently to average more than 50 in all the formats. The skipper averages 55.74 and 52.86 in ODIs and T20Is to go with 50.13 in the Tests. He would love to continue though in the same vein now after setting a benchmark in the first match of the Test series.
