Virat Kohli becomes the second most followed Indian on Facebook

India all-format captain Virat Kohli, apart from all his vanquishments on the field, added another feather to his cap as he recently became the second most followed Indian personality on Facebook. The Royal Challengers Bangalore star has been in the limelight for his recent fallout with the Indian coach Anil Kumble.

With over 35 million followers on Facebook, Kohli’s fan following is second to only Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi who currently acquires the top spot with over 42.2 million followers. But Kohli still is the most popular sports icon presently in the country which hosts legends such as Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni.

He has also superseded Bollywood stalwart Salman Khan by more than 6.00,000 followers. Besides his accomplishments on Facebook, the RCB and India captain also has a significant following on other social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter with 14 million and 16 million followers respectively.

Virat Kohli is currently leading his troops in West Indies after the loss to their arch-rivals Pakistan in the finals of the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy held in England and Wales. In a post-match interview with ANI, the swashbuckling batsman expressed his feeling when the news was broken to him.

Kohli not wary of his feat

“All I want to say is that its special being at the receiving end of the affection from the fans and supporters for a number of years now. I want the fans to keep supporting the team henceforth. I wasn’t aware of the increase in the number of followers.” quoted Virat Kohli.

“It’s a matter of great satisfaction to make the fans happy with the things we do on the field. I wasn’t aware of the competition on Facebook but still, it’s something which made me very happy. I think it’s just a by-product of our efforts on the field.” concluded the quintessential Indian top-order batsman
