Indian captain Virat Kohli brought up his 51st international hundred in the ongoing 2nd Test match against Sri Lanka in Nagpur. India are gently going to pile up a big total, and it is a familiar sight for all the viewers. Kohli and his men have been outstanding in the last couple of years. They have been invincible at home and have clinched the silverware away too.
Kohli has broken yet another record and this time it is of legendary former great Sunil Gavaskar. The 29-year-old has surpassed Gavaskar to become the first Indian Test captain to register 12 centuries. He had equalled the little master in the last Test in Kolkata.
Massive conversion rate
In 31 Tests as skipper, Kohli has crossed fifty on sixteen occasions. He has gone on to score a hundred 12 times – that’s a conversion rate of 75% – the highest for any captain with 10 Test hundreds. The next in the line are Don Bradman & Michael Clarke with 66.66% conversion rate
Delightful doubles
The right-hand batsman has been in tremendous form. He had notched up four consecutive double centuries in four successive Test series. He started it all with a double ton against West Indies and followed it up with another one against New Zealand, last year. He then went on to score a 235 against England and bagged one more for fun against Bangladesh.
He was off-color during the high-voltage clash against Australia at home. He could manage just 46 runs from 3 Tests against Steve Smith’s men. But he came back strong to register a hundred against Sri Lanka in their own backyard. In the 1st Test at the Eden Gardens, Kohli got dismissed for a duck in the first innings but whacked a six to bring up his 50th international ton in some fashion. And he has added one more now to his name.
