The skipper of Royal Challenger Bangalore Virat Kohli becomes the first player to score 3 tons in a single edition of IPL – unbeaten 109 against Gujarat Lions (GL) at Rajkot, unbeaten 108 against Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) at Bengaluru and 109 against Gujarat Lions at Bengaluru.
Virat Kohli has been consistent as ever throughout this tournament, being the orange cap holder currently with 677 runs way ahead of his teammate AB de Villers with 538 runs at no.2 spot.
With his third ton in the 44th IPL match against Gujarat Lions, he had also gone past Rohit Sharma for now as the second leading run-scorer in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Virat Kohli currently has 3814 runs against his name, one run ahead of Rohit Sharma. Raina is leading the list of highest run-getters in the IPL history with 3985 runs from 143 matches.
Along with Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers also scored 129 runs off 52 deliveries in the match with 10 fours and 12 sixes. Virat Kohli scored 30 runs off young Shivil Kaushik’s 19th over of the match and the duo help Royal Challengers post a mammoth total of 248 runs.
This was also the first instance where two centuries were scored in an innings in IPL. AB de Villiers took just 43 deliveries to reach his ton, which is the 5th fastest century in IPL. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers had a partnership of 229 runs and this is the 4th hundred run partnership by this pair in this IPL season, which is the most by a pair in a season. Shikhar Dhawan – Gautam Gambhir pair in 2008 season and Chris Gayle – Virat Kohli pair for the 2012 season had made 3 hundred partnerships, which was the previous best.
AB de Villiers had also gone past 3000 runs in IPL in the course of this match, being the 9th player and 3rd overseas batsman to gone pass the milestone.
