Virat Kohli is the boss of the team, says Head Coach Ravi Shastri
If you see one team that has made strides in the last couple of years, it is India: Shastri
Indian Head Coach Ravi Shastri, post series win in Sri Lanka went ahead and claimed that it the captain who is the boss of the team and there is an ‘element of trust’ players and the support staff share in the dressing room. The former Team Director also was looking forward to the upcoming overseas tour of Australia, England and South Africa.
The Indian Cricket Team is currently enjoying an invincible streak in both ODIs and Test series. The last time India faced defeat in a bilateral series in Test cricket was back in 2014-15 tour of Australia. Furthermore, the Indian team lost an ODI series last against Australia again in 2015-2016 series. They also managed to reach the semi-finals and finals of ICC World T20 of 2016 and ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 in the interim.
“The Captain will always be the boss of the team. I have under me a fantastic support staff who’ve been with me right from day one when I became the Director of the team and today I’m the Head Coach of the team. And there is a certain element of bonding and trust when it comes to the players dealing with the support staff and our job is making them feel relaxed and make them feel that they are in a great mental space,” quoted Ravi Shastri according to his recent interview with BCCI.tv.
Shastri on upcoming tours of Australia, England and South Africa
“I think it’s a great opportunity and a challenge. The reason I say it’s a combination of both is that if you see world cricket today, there is not a single team that travels well, especially when it comes to Test matches. If you see one team that has made strides in the last couple of years, it is India,” further added Shastri when asked about the overseas challenges ahead against Australia, England and South Africa.
“If you look at India in the last two years they’ve beaten England in England in an overseas ODI series, after 24 years. They’ve beaten Australia in a T20 series 3-0, we’ve beaten Sri Lanka back-to-back in two overseas tours here,” boasted the newly appointed Head Coach of India.
