Indian fans have been excited ever since the announcement of a Day-Night Test series between India and West Indies to take place in the country was made. However, they might have to wait for some more time as the authorities still seem to be divided on their decisions about the matches. Reportedly, Virat Kohli and his boys are not yet sure about the prospect of playing Day-Night matches later this year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), including acting secretary, Amitabh Choudhary had ruled in favour of the occurrence of the Day-Night series with Windies in order to attract more crowd in the stadiums. However, since the Indian players are not yet accustomed with the pink Kookaburra, the Committee of Administrators (CoA), led by Vinod Rai is expected to hold further talks with the players and the team management before the IPL opening ceremony in Mumbai on April 7, to gain clarity on the issue.

Kohli, Shastri doubtful on how many sessions to be played under lights

As reported by The Times of India, a source commented that India would play a Day-Night Test eventually, but only when the entire team is convinced of its full merits and demerits and said, “Initially, even Kohli wasn’t sure about the long-term impact of playing day-night Test without having a proper trial of it.

But now, both Kohli and Shastri are in agreement that India should not rush into day-night Test just as yet.” In an email, Rai expressed concerns about holding matches in cities like Rajkot and Hyderabad, where it’d be difficult for spectators to avail public transport late at night owing to the cities not being major metropolitan ones.

The main concern that the Indian skipper is said to have is the number of sessions that have to be played under the lights as there are issues such as visibility and the pink ball darting about under the floodlights. As a result, Kohli reportedly doesn’t want to rush into the new format without enough practice behind the team.

In addition, there is the rising concern that if India agrees to play day-night Test against the Windies, Australia might as well call for a day-night Test Down Under, involving India and Australia at the end of the year and. With chances of Cricket Australia asking for more than one session under the lights, India would be left squirming in such situations with ample practice.
