Team India skipper, Virat Kohli, announced his comeback to form in fine fashion. Despite being in prime form in the limited overs cricket in the recent times, Kohli was under some sort of pressure to perform in the whites. In his last seven innings in Test cricket, he had failed to register a fifty. His previous herculean knock in the format was a double ton against Bangladesh in February this year.

Coming in to bat in the second innings of the Kolkata Test, Virat Kohli wanted to make his bat do to the talking after having failed in the first innings of the match. Well, needless to concede, the dynamic Indian cricketer starred with the bat for India. He arrived at the crease after the dismissal of KL Rahul on the final day.

The hosts were keen on putting up a decent lead on the board to give themselves a crack at the Sri Lankan team to try to squeeze out a result in the match. Hence, the pressure to score, and score briskly was the need of the hour. Kohli did exactly that. The Indian captain managed to score a fine century to take India’s lead past 200-mark.

Virat Kohli brought up his 18th Test century, and his 50th international century. Also, with the ton, he is now the Indian cricketer to have scored most centuries as the captain in the longest format along with Sunil Gavaskar. Both players have scored 11 Test tons as the Indian captain. Expect Kohli to be breaching that mark soon enough.

Also, the superlative knock has helped Kohli take his Test average past the 50-mark. Kohli scored an unbeaten 104 off 119 deliveries with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Coming to the moment, he brought up his ton in style. It was a short of length delivery from Suranga Lakmal and Kohli stepped out and drove it inside out over the wide long off fielder. A pause followed and then a big fist pump celebration showed some raw emotions of the Indian captain.
