Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli was the face of the Premier Futsal league and everybody is familiar with the sight of him promoting the event. However, reports by the Mumbai Mirror confirm that the cricketer is no longer the brand ambassador for the high-intensity football event.
Details:
The event is not officially recognized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Virat Kohli had to face consequences for endorsing the same previously. AIFF president Praful Patel had indirectly warned the talented cricketer through a tweet which roots back to June 2016. In his tweet, Praful mentioned that no brand ambassador of the Indian Super League can be the face of a league which is not recognized by the AIFF of FIFA.
It should be brought into notice that Virat Kohli is the co-owner of the ISL franchise going by the name of FC Goa and that was the main reason behind Praful Patel’s tweet. It is believed that the continuous pressure from the Indian football federation led to Virat Kohli’s detachment from the Premier Futsal league. The report further added that Kohli and his team completed the legal formalities for a cordial parting of ways with the league.
However, Virat Kohli’s pictures were used during the promotion of the second edition of the league when Brazilian legend Ronaldinho came to the country in July for the promotions. Heavyweights from the world of football like Ronaldinho, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Deco will be a part of the tournament which kicks off on Friday in Mumbai.
Virat Kohli was roped in as the brand ambassador for the Premier Futsal League in April last year. He also featured in the anthem of the event along with the legendary A.R Rahman.
“Futsallers display a lot of flair, skill and swag on the field, which are all qualities I relate to,” he had said back then. “I am tremendously excited to be a part of Premier Futsal and motivated to positively contribute to the development of this wonderful new sport in India.” he had added.
