Virat Kohli feels embarrassed on being compared with Sachin Tendulkar
Kohli might have bettered a few of Tendulkar's records but is certainly not comfortable with the comparisons.
Indian captain Virat Kohli on Thursday posted in honour of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and his humble tribute to the latter won him the fans’ admiration. The reason for Kohli’s tribute is that it was on this date in 1989 that the Master Blaster had made his international debut and it happened against Pakistan in Karachi. The man went on to dominate the cricketing world for the next 24 years and played his last Test innings on the same date in 2013.
Kohli, who is all set to lead India to a challenging tour of Australia starting November 21, said in his Instagram post that he considered himself to be lucky to have played alongside Tendulkar and also for being a part of his farewell match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against the Windies.
Both Tendulkar (74) and Kohli (57) hit fifties in that match though they did not share any partnership. In the ODIs, too, Kohli had slammed a majestic 183 in Tendulkar’s final game and it was against Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup in Bangladesh.
Modest Kohli not comfortable with comparison with Tendulkar
The Indian captain was also at his humble best when he said in his post that it was “embarrassing” when people compare him with the legend. Though, the 30-year-old recently shattered Tendulkar’s record to become the quickest batsman to complete 10,000 runs in ODIs, reaching the club by playing 53 matches and 54 innings lesser.
Kohli is also on the way to eclipse Tendulkar’s record number of 49 hundreds in the ODIs as he has already reached 38. And he has just completed 10 years in international cricket.
He wrote- “The first day my cricketing inspiration started playing for our country. I was lucky enough to play with him and to be part of his farewell game which was nothing short of magical. To be compared to him is nothing short of embarrassing. Thank you for the memories @sachintendulkar. The G.O.A.T”
Kohli was rested recently for the three-match T20I series against the Windies at home after he finished as the man of the series in the five-ODI series, picking three consecutive hundreds. India will play three T20Is, four Tests and three ODIs in the series that will go into 2019.
