India beat Pakistan in their Asia Cup tie by 5 wickets on the back of a superb effort by batsman Virat Kohli who took the team really close to victory but was given out on 49. The ball had taken an edge of his bat but the umpire judged him out lbw. The ICC today fined Kohli 30% of his match fee for violating the ICC Code of Conduct by showing dissent against the umpire’s decision.

Following the match he was called up by the match referee Jeff Crowe, Kohli admitted to the offence and accepted the fine.

An ICC press release on the matter stated: “The incident happened in the 15th over of India’s innings when Kohli, after being given out leg before, displayed dissent by first showing his bat and then leaving the crease while looking back at the umpire and uttering some words that were contrary to the spirit of the game,”

Television replays showed that Kohli had inside edged the Mohammad Sami delivery on his pads in the 15th over of the Indian innings but was still given out lbw by the umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge.

Virat was batting on 49 and looked all set to get to his half-century as well as finish the game for India. It was a classy knock which further showed the reason why he has so much respect in the cricketing circles. Kohli showed a lot of character and class during his innings which saw him bail out the team from a situation where they were 3 down for 8 runs while chasing the target of 84 runs. By the time he got out India were just 8 runs from victory, skipper MS Dhoni was the next man in and finished it was a boundary and India won the match by 5 wickets.
