Virat Kohli shocked the world when he decided to step down as Team India’s Test skipper just a day after their Test series loss to South Africa earlier this month. It has been reported that the current Indian limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma is set to succeed Kohli in whites thus, making him an all-format captain.

Meanwhile, veteran wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik has ranked Virat Kohli among the top Test captains that the country has ever produced for taking them to unattained heights in red-ball cricket. Under the batting megastar’s captaincy, India were at the pinnacle of the ICC Test rankings for 42 months (October 2016- March 2020) and were undefeated in all the home Test series.

“He (Kohli) has led India so well and taken the Test team to a very strong place. As a person who has been part of the team and has played under him, I know the amount of effort he puts in every time he goes out on the field”, said Dinesh Karthik according to India Today.

At the same time, the cricketer-turned-broadcaster also explained why Kohli has been one of the top leaders for the country in the longest format. He said the batting icon has given everything he had to offer as a captain and will also have many pleasant memories when he looks back at his captaincy career.

“He gives it everything he has. It has been a great joy for me to have been part of that journey. He has been one of the top captains for India in Test. I hope when he turns back, he looks at all the pleasant memories and the good memories and he has a good time thinking about the success he has had as the captain,” he said.

As far as his captaincy in red-ball cricket is concerned, the former skipper led India in 68 matches winning 40 of them which is a far better record than his predecessors Sourav Ganguly (21 wins from 49 games), and one of the most successful limited-overs captains Mahendra Singh Dhoni (27 wins from 60 games) respectively.
