Team India wrapped up the third and final Test match against New Zealand on day 4 at Indore. The Indians batted for some part of the post Lunch session as well, awaiting Cheteshwar Pujara’s well-deserved century and the moment he got there skipper Virat Kohli declared. The bowlers still had over a session today and 90 overs tomorrow to bowl out the New Zealand team and guess what? They didn’t let the game drag into the last day.
Ravichandran Ashwin was awarded the Man of the match and the series for his bowling performance. But not everyone is praising him, his effort and bowling ability. A lot of critics feel since he is playing at home on pitches that are turning Ashwin is able to find success. Among those voicing their opinion about the rank turners produced is another off-spinner from India, Harbhajan Singh.
Bhajji had earlier tweeted – ‘Already looks like 2 days old pitch before the 1st bowl is bowled..my predictions match won’t go more then 3 and half days..’

Someone reminded him that he also played on turning tracks to which he replied, ‘Only 2 in my 103 tests.. Kumble and my test wicket count would have been something else if we got wickets like last 4 years we playing on’

Maybe the Indian skipper had an idea about it and definitely though the need to back his ace bowler and rather hit back saying, “Even if it is a turning pitch, you have to bowl well. Spin is just not something to happen only off the pitch. It depends on how many revs (revolutions) you give to the ball and the use of the shoulder. When we lost to New Zealand in the World Cup, I quite clearly remember, suddenly their spinners were quality bowlers and we were found out! I don’t see anyone talking about it now,” Kohli said.
He also mentioned the fact that this is the same spin bowling attack that had the Indian team on its knees in the World T20 played in India earlier this year. That was a T20 and this being Test they couldn’t trouble the Indian batsmen enough. Virat added, “The same (New Zealand) spinners had played (in this series). Why did not they pick up wickets? It’s as simple as that. Our fast bowlers (also) picked up wickets everywhere. Give a guy a cement track to bat on. He should have a mindset to do so. It’s as simple as that. That’s all I am going to sum up,”
Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers not just in this match but for the entire series. He picked 7 wickets in the second inning for 56 runs and registered his best bowling figures. With that, he also achieved the best bowling figures of his career 13/140. The off-spinner has been in red hot form picking consecutive 5-wicket hauls. He recently also became the second fastest bowler to complete 200 Test wickets.
