Virat Kohli has been an iconic personality in the sports world. He has smashed several records and has grown in stature as his career has progressed. He has also been a face of a number of renowned brands. The previous year saw Kohli score runs at a haemorrhaging rate, which has only added to his reputation of being a prolific run-scorer in all formats of the game.
Recently, the cricketer has been named in the list of 100 most influential people of 2018 in TIME magazine as per reports in The Times of India. His numbers were the third most ever among cricketers after Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting. Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian legendary cricketer, wrote the Delhi-born batsman’s profile in the popular journal where he highlighted Virat’s eagerness to succeed in world cricket.
“He’s never looked back”- Tendulkar on Virat Kohli
“That was the first time I watched this young, passionate player lead India. Today, Virat Kohli is a household name and a champion in cricket. Even back then, his hunger for runs and consistency was remarkable, something that has become the hallmark of his game,” Tendulkar wrote.
The Master Blaster also mentioned about the manner in which Kohli used criticisms to refurbish his skills and improve as a cricketer. “Virat took the criticism he faced during a disappointing West Indies series and returned home with a goal: to improve not only his technique, but also his fitness level. He’s never looked back,” the former batsman added.
Quite often Virat Kohli has been compared to Tendulkar owing to his dominating run of form in international cricket. Following Sachin’s humble words for him, the current Indian skipper was over the moon. Subsequently, he took to Twitter and thanked the Mumbai-cricketer and also expressed his gratitude to TIME for giving him a position in the list of elite personalities across the world. He wrote
“Thank you @sachin_rt paaji for such warm and encouraging words. Truly honored for being able to make it to the @Time’s 100 list. #Times100 #grateful”
