Virat Kohli hasn't quite had the best of luck in last so many matches: Sunil Gavaskar
Virat Kohli is yet to make an impact with the bat in the ongoing ODI series against West Indies.
Former India captain Virat Kohli seems to have lost his Midas touch with the bat in the last two years as he has been unable to breach the three-figure mark. While Kohli does manage to score half-centuries at regular intervals, he has not succeeded in turning them into big knocks. After being removed from India’s ODI captaincy in December, the senior batter scored two fifties in South Africa last month and is yet to play an impactful knock in the ongoing One Day series against the West Indies.
As the batting megastar continues to toil hard on the 22 yards, legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar has come forward and said that the 33-year-old is not out of form but, nothing is going right for him as far as his luck is concerned. Virat Kohli has only managed to score 26 runs in two games in this home series with 8 and 18 runs to his name respectively.
Every batter needs a bit of luck: Sunil Gavaskar
“Luck (What is Kohli missing?). Every batter needs a bit of luck. Every batter needs a situation where he plays and misses an edge. Every batter needs a situation where he edges the ball and the catch is dropped or the ball falls short of the fielder”, said Gavaskar while speaking on Star Sports.
“He hasn’t quite had the best of luck in the last so many matches. Don’t forget, he got the fifties in South Africa,” he added.
Even though he has not had the best series so far, Kohli would be hoping to make amends in the inconsequential third ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. While India would be eyeing a clean sweep, the Windies would be looking forward to salvaging pride by coming out on top in the dead-rubber contest.
It would be interesting to see whether the 2011 World Cup winner will finally succeed in ending his quest for the 71st international century that has been eluding him since November 2019 when he had scored his 27th Test ton in India’s first-ever pink-ball Test match against Bangladesh at the iconic Eden Gardens.
