The two biggest positives for the Indian cricket team, in the Test series against England, have been their strong pace attack and captain Virat Kohli’s form. Series after series, the 29-year-old has proved that he is the best in the business and the alien conditions don’t stop him from scoring runs. In the ongoing series so far, he is the top run-scorer after 4 Tests. He has scored a phenomenal 544 runs, without much support from a second fiddle, which is the primary reason why India lost the series.
Going into the fifth and final Test, the run-machine awaits yet another personal feat. He is short of just one ton from equalling Sir Vivian Richards‘ tally of 24 Test tons. At only 29, the batsman from Delhi has already scaled several heights. He recently crossed the 6000-run mark in Tests. From 70 Tests, he has an amazing 6098 runs with an average of 54.45, including 23 centuries, six double centuries and 19 half centuries.
Kohli is 25th on the list of most Test centuries. Sachin Tendulkar is on top of the table with 51 centuries. On his last tour of England under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, he had managed just 134 runs in 10 innings, but this time he proved critics wrong.
The dead rubber
The fifth and final Test begins on Friday at the Oval, and this will also be Alastair Cook’s last international match. India may try out Prithvi Shaw in their batting department and there is an equal chance that Hanuma Vihar will get a nod ahead.
In the longest format, both teams have faced each other at Kennington Oval a total of 12 times, with the hosts are leading the scoreline 4-1 and seven matches have ended in draws. Indian bowling department has been great throughout the series and they will once again use pacers Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah to get some quick wickets.
