Virat Kohli is the only batsman to have an average of at least 50 in all the three formats of international cricket and is on his way to attaining the status of an all-time great thanks to his exploits with the bat. The Indian captain is currently labeled one of the best modern-era batsmen and he has the numbers to back the claim as well.
He has also adapted well to the shortest format of the game, when he was initially criticized for not hitting enough sixes, a notion he broke with alarming regularities in the 2016 edition of Indian Premier League, when smoked 973 runs with four centuries in the single edition and took the team to the finals of the competition.
Andre Russell praises Virat Kohli and talks about the difference in their batting styles
Andre Russell is perhaps one of the strongest power hitters in the world of cricket at the moment. The Bajan cricketer has made a huge name for himself in T20 leagues everywhere in the world and his fireworks in 2019 IPL left everyone in awe and amazement when he won matches out of impossible situations for his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, who have retained him for 2020 edition as well.
In a recent interview, Russell talked about the difference between his style and that of Virat Kohli’s. while heaping praise on the Indian captain. “He (Virat) is a tremendous player. Sometimes, you may have to put five-ten words together to actually describe him as a player. He is such a determined guy,” Russell was quoted as saying on sidelines of Abu Dhabi T10 League.
“Virat is a true champion. I just hope that he can keep entertaining the fans. He has been performing well in Test cricket, ODIs and T20I cricket. He is a proper all-round player. Virat’s technique is a lot different from mine. It’s more classical than mine. I am a more awkward batter where my technique is not that smooth. My technique is all about power and brute force. I try to hit the ball as hard as possible off every delivery I face,” he added.
He further mentioned that the two-time and current T20 World Champions West Indies will go into the 2020 tournament under big pressure to defend their title.
