Indian captain Virat Kohli has been often criticized for his aggression on the cricket field. However, the Indian skipper has got a backing from former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi. According to the former swashbuckling batter, Kohli is doing a fantastic job with his controlled aggression.
India has dominated the South Africans in the ODI series as they lead the 6-match series 3-0. The Indian captain has amassed run in the ODIs with 3 centuries in 3 matches. He was the lone player from both the sides to get to a century in the Test series which India lost.
Kohli was criticized for his bizarre selection calls during the first two Tests against the South Africans. The Indian skipper was very animated when the umpires had called off the days play during the Test match after opener Deal Elgar was hit on the helmet.
37-year-old Shahid Afridi who held the record of fastest ODI century for a long time is in Switzerland to play 2 games in St Moritz Ice Cricket tournament 2018 against Virendra Sehwag led side praised the way Indian skipper is leading the side. According to Afridi, Kohli is doing a fantastic job as captain.
Controlled aggression always good: Afridi
Afridi said that every captain has their own styles. He gave the example of former India captain Dhoni and said that he was a cool-minded and relaxed skipper. “If you look at (MS) Dhoni then he is very cool-minded and relaxed. Everyone has their own nature,” Afridi said.
He said that If the captain is able to take the team ahead and is helping the players in trouble, the controlled aggression is good. “If you take everyone ahead together, if the captain supports the young players or those in troubled times, he also earns respect,” Afridi was quoted saying ahead of the first game.
Afridi, when asked about his future plans, said that he wants to concentrate on the T20 leagues everywhere but working with Shahid Afridi Foundation was a bigger cause. “For me, I want to concentrate only on the leagues (T20 tournaments), wherever they are. Be it England, Australia or Bangladesh. But I also have a bigger cause, working with my foundation. This is what I am working on,” the right-hander said.
