His answer came when he was asked to put forward his opinion on the top three batters in the world.
“I feel in my opinion, Virat Kohli is the best batsman of this era, although I don’t find it tough bowling against him I feel he’s the best batsman of this era. Steven Smith is the player I feel is a difficult batsman to bowl to personally for me,” Mohammad Amir said to Zee News English.
Amir and Kohli have faced each other on many occasions. One of the most remembered occasions is the Champions Trophy 2017 finals. The speedster had dominated the proceedings against India by running through the opposition’s top order. He had picked up the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan to fashion the team’s victory.
Shane Watson was a very difficult batsman to bowl: Mohammad Amir
The pacer also opened up on bowling to Australia’s batter Shane Watson. He recounted that in his playing days, he found bowling to Watson quite challenging. From the current slot, he feels that Steve Smith is a difficult batter to bowl to.
“When I played in 2009 Shane Watson was a very difficult batsman to bowl to in white-ball cricket, but now I feel Steven Smith because I don’t understand how Steve Smith bats, I bowl him outside off he’ll flick it to the leg-side, if I bowl him on the legs, he’ll make room and drive that bowl to covers. (laughs)” and says “I struggle understanding how Smith bats, really,” Amir added.
