I am very conscious about my fashion: Virat Kohli
Indian Test team captain Virat Kohli launched a new store of his brand Wrogn along with Anjana Reddy, CEO of Universal SportsBiz Pvt. Ltd at the Forum Mall in Hyderabad on Friday. Kohli, who is in Hyderabad for his team Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL match against the home team Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. During the launch, he spoke about his love towards designing and fashion.
Speaking about his brand Wrogn and its future development, Kohli said: “Today, we retail through 75 Shoppers Stop across the country. The company is looking to open 20 exclusive brand outlets (EBOs) this year and 100 EBOs in the next three years through the franchise route. Wrogn is the new right. My style statement is very simple, be confident in what you are wearing and it will look good on you. You have to be comfortable in what you wear and you have to have the confidence to pull it off.”
When asked about IOC’s decision on appointing Salman Khan as Brand ambassador for upcoming Rio Olympics, Kohli said: “See, I am not in a position to comment about it. It really doesn’t matter what I feel about it. So, there is no point putting it out there. The decision has to be made by the concerned people and I have said this before as well. Lot of people have voiced their opinions. For me, I can’t make comment because I am not making that decision. It’s upto the people who have made the decision to know whether it is right or wrong. It’s not my place to answer that because whatever I say honestly it’s going to be masala for news. It’s not going to make any difference. I am being very honest. My opinion will not change the decision for anyone in any sort of association or organization and I am in no position to make a comment on that.”
Talking about Sports getting support from Bollywood, Kohli said, “If you get support (for sports) from anywhere it’s good. Support is never bad. But I am not saying that I am in favor of the decision or against the decision. As I said it’s not my place to comment on it, people will have different feelings towards the decision. My opinion really doesn’t matter in altering that decision or have an impact on the outcome of that decision. So, it doesn’t really matter what I say here.”
When asked about whether the passion towards designing changed Kohli’s personality, he said, “Well it did. Initially, when you are experimenting in sense of passion, you obviously enter various stuff not exactly you wanted to wear because everyone else feel like a competitor. Well it is very tough and very important to find your own styles and in what you are comfortable in wearing and what makes you feel comfortable when you go out there. It all depends on how confident you are about wearing. You won’t see me wearing anything loud as I figured out what works for me and what type of clothes sink with me over a period of time. It takes time for everyone and it will help me in achieving and will have connect with the youth. I am very conscious about my fashion and I approve all the designs for Wrogn, also, my style is very casual.”
When asked how does it feel being an entrepreneur, Kohli said, “It’s a very new feeling, honestly. I don’t think at this stage of my life I wouldn’t be one. But I feel that’s stepping into right direction. When I am done with my cricket, I obviously need something to look forward to in my life and actually understand how business side of things work so I have something to look forward to when I am down in my sport because it is taking so much of my lifestyle that immediately when I finish, I shouldn’t feel like I have nothing to do now. You know it is a very very strange feeling. Obviously, you have to give time to family, but you need to be busy as well. I am still learning. So in another 10-12 years, I should have enough knowledge and keen interest in whatever business I will set up in future as well. But ya, this is a very positive start and I am happy about it.”
Talking about the attention he got during the event or in general, Kohli told: “I still react to it in a very nervous way most of the times. I still don’t know how to react so many people coming for me. I have to actually sit here and absorb all the love and affection off the field. But when you are focused and committed to something so badly you don’t care to the attention going all around, but I am very thankful for it.”
