The Kohli-Paine tussle in the second Test caught the attention of one and all. The duo didn’t seem to be on good terms and they weren’t at ease even during the post-match handshakes. Former Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson had his say about the same. He noted that there wasn’t any point if the players weren’t able to look into each other’s faces and shake hands properly.
He said that Virat Kohli’s act looked disrespectful during the handshakes. Also, Johnson pointed out that the second Test made the Indian skipper look silly. However, he maintained that he enjoyed watching the banter on the field, “Overall the banter out on the field was fine and I really enjoyed seeing the Indian four-pronged attack going hard at the Australians both verbally and with the ball. It got the crowd going and it is great for the game.”
Virat Kohli contradicted what he said at the start of the series
Virat Kohli said that he was a changed person at the start of the series. Also, the 30-year-old added that he wouldn’t initiate any conversation on the field but did the otherwise. Mitchell Johnson pointed out the same in one of his columns for Fox Cricket.
“However, Kohli has contradicted the things he said at the start of the series. He said he was a changed person – that he was coming in with a different attitude to last time and wasn’t going to initiate anything. What we saw this Test says otherwise. From my experiences with him and what I am seeing as an observer now, not much has changed. It was disappointing and that is not the only area where he let himself down,” wrote the left-arm pacer.
Johnson also lashed out at Kohli for not attending the press conference after the controversial catch by Peter Handscomb.
“I was not impressed that he opted not to do the press conference that night. He was going to get asked about the Handscomb catch so he sent out young quick Jasprit Bumrah instead to take the heat. I am not claiming to be a saint and I gave my fair share of verbals. However, I never said I would not initiate verbals heading into a series. I was also never captain,” he further wrote.
