Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket team’s skipper, has picked Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo as his favourite. The 31-year-picked him above Lionel Mess, who’s also regarded as one of the greatest in the football world. Ronaldo has scored 343 goals for Manchester United and Real Madrid in 454 league matches. The 35-year-old legend has 256 goals in 233 matches for Madrid.

He is also the second-best goal-scorer ever in the Spanish football league. The Delhi-born Virat has spoken in favour of Ronaldo, whose passion and love for the game has left the Indian captain in awe. He made the choice between Messi and Ronaldo during an interaction with Kevin Pietersen.

Virat Kohli impressed by Ronaldo

“Ronaldo, because of his work ethic, drive and passion,” Virat was quoted as saying during the interaction. Ronaldo has 99 goals from 164 matches, donning the Portugal colours.

Even previously, Kohli was asked to pick between the enigmatic duo. And Kohli hasn’t changed his decision. Virat reckoned that Ronaldo revolutionised the sport to a large extent and it’s his intensity and energy that make him special.

“Tough question. But I would say Cristiano is the most complete player that I have seen. Whether it’s the left foot, right foot, speed or dribbling skills, he’s amazing. I have not seen a better goal-scorer. He revolutionised the sport and everyone followed him. His place is special, but if I had to take only one in my team who will give energy and intensity, it’s Cristiano,” he had said.

In the chat with Pietersen on Instagram, Kohli talked about other aspects of his career as well. He called India’s tour of England back in 2014 as the worst phase of his cricket career. Talking about that tour, Virat said that the situation was bad to such an extent that he nearly gave up home of scoring runs.

He used to get out, fishing outside the off-side. James Anderson gave him plenty of headaches. But when India toured them in 2018, Virat was the leading run-scorer with a top score of 149. Kohli started as a brash cricketer, but he has undergone a massive transformation and has turned out to be an inspirational figure for many.
