It is known for all that BCCI has appointed Rohit Sharma as India’s white-ball skipper recently and with this, Virat Kohli will now only lead the Indian side in Tests. Talking in the same context, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir stated that Kohli might become an even dangerous batter in limited-overs after not having the captaincy burden.
It is known for all that Kohli is struggling through a rough patch in his batting career where his last century came in 2019 against Bangladesh. Fans have been waiting for King’s 71st century as well as a plethora of runs from his bat.
“Same as Rohit Sharma’s role in red-ball cricket, it’s just that captaincy is not there. It might just free Virat Kohli up much more. He might just become more dangerous in white-ball cricket with the pressure of captaincy not being there on his shoulders,” said Gautam Gambhir while speaking on Star Sports show Follow the Blues.
I am sure Virat Kohli is going to make India proud: Gambhir
It is known that Kohli is one of the fittest cricketers across the globe and his willingness to do more in more won’t lessen in the days coming up. Gambhir opened up on the same matter and added that Kohli’s intensity won’t drop even while not having the ODI captaincy. India will be up for their next assignment during the South Africa series where the 33-year-old will be expected to flaunt his class.
“I am sure he is going to make India proud, he is going to keep getting runs in white-ball cricket or in red-ball cricket. At the same time, there will be two different guys probably giving their own thoughts, giving their own vision for the team, added Gambhir.
“I am sure India will see the best of Virat Kohli, whether it is red-ball cricket or white-ball cricket. At the same time, the kind of passion he has shown over such a long period of time or the energy, you are going to see the same out of Virat Kohli, whether he is the captain or not,” he concluded.
