Virat Kohli is No. 1 captain in terms of series wins: Virender Sehwag
"Kohli's aggression can be compared with Ganguly. In fact, he is an upgraded version of Sourav Ganguly."
The former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has tipped Virat Kohli as one of the best captains the country has ever had. The Men in Blue recently triumphed in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa with one match to go. It was the first ever ODI series victory in the country. They played some amazing cricket during this period and Kohli led from the front with the bat for them. However, Sehwag denied to compare him with the previous best captains of the country and believed that it was a long way to go for Kohli.
Kohli is having a dream run against Proteas with the bat as he has smashed three centuries on the tour so far. He was the only centurion in the Test series which the home side won by 2-1 and carried the momentum in the ODI series scoring a couple more 100+ scores. He has taken his game a notch higher ever since taking over the mantle of the Indian team from MS Dhoni.
An upgraded version of Ganguly
Virender Sehwag, while speaking to India TV, compared Virat Kohli’s aggression to Sourav Ganguly and called him an upgraded version of Dada. “Kohli’s aggression can be compared with Ganguly. In fact, he is an upgraded version of Sourav Ganguly. Under Ganguly’s captaincy, we saw some incredible wins overseas and such has been the trend so far with Virat Kohli,” he said. The Nawab of Najafgarh also felt that it is a long way to go for him in the role and has done well so far.
“Kohli is the No.1 captain in terms of series wins. If we analyse the past eight series wins under his captaincy, we’ll find that he is one of the best captains we have ever seen. Having said that, I believe that we should not compare him with the best of previous captains. He needs more time and experience as captain to reach where the past skippers are,” the 39-year-old added. Sehwag also asserted that the added responsibility has taken Kohli’s game to another level.
“He has gained confidence with the captaincy. Unlike others, he has matured and has taken his individual game to the next level. He doesn’t take the pressure of captaincy. In fact, he has improved his game with the responsibility. He has brought the trend of fitness in the camp,” he concluded.
