Virat Kohli, the skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore was recently involved in a live session with the former England cricketer, Kevin Pietersen. The former player questioned Kohli over the fact that why RCB has not managed to win a single IPL in last 12 seasons. To which, current Indian skipper gave his clarification saying that the team needs to rediscover the joy of cricket in order to finish their IPL trophy drought.

Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the three franchises that has never won a single season of the cash-rich league. Interestingly, they reached three finals back in 2009, 2011 and 2016. But, the Bangalore franchise ended up losing on all three occasions. Moreover, the last three seasons have emerged as a disaster for RCB because they ended up on the last position in 2017 and 2019 whereas on 6th position in 2018.

Virat Kohli interacts with Kevin Pietersen on Instagram live

In the Instagram live interaction with Kevin Pietersen, the RCB skipper said that it is just an added pressure on the team in the recent seasons. Every time, the players in the team thought that is is going to be the season when RCB will win the trophy, that never happened eventually. Skipper Kohli feels that the players need to start enjoying their game and it will surely help the team in the upcoming seasons.

“You go after something so badly, and it keeps running away from you. It has just that added pressure in recent years. We’ve just thought, ‘this is the season, this is the season’, and that’s blown us all over the place. I think we need to get that joy back,” Kohli said during live Instagram session with Kevin Pietersen.

RCB will again be in focus for clinching their maiden IPL title in the upcoming edition of the tournament. As per Kohli, the team has reached three finals but those facts are irrelevant until they win the trophy. Having good players and still not being able to lift the title is disheartening. But, still, they deserve to win the trophy according to Kohli.

“When you have some of the biggest names to play for RCB, obviously there’s going to be much more attention on the team. Even with this team — myself, AB (de Villiers) and (Chris) Gayle has played recently for us as well — we’re always going to be more in focus. We’ve spoken about it. We’ve reached three finals … but those things are irrelevant till the time you don’t win that title. Even when we’ve had the best team, we’ve just not been able to do it. That’s one of our main goals. We deserve to win the title,” Kohli added.
