After Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, carved a couple of series wins for India in the Test and ODI series, Rohit Sharma took charge in the T20I series and whitewashed their opponents 3-0. The first two matches in Kolkata and Lucknow turned out to be pretty one-sided, but the final encounter at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai was a heart-racing thriller.
The hosts decided to rest a couple of their key players in Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav and roped in Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal in the playing eleven. With nothing to lose, Carlos Brathwaite and Co played with freedom and laid into the Indian bowlers to rack up a humungous score of 181 runs for the loss of three wickets in the 20 overs.
Kohli congratulates Team India
Nicholas Pooran was severe on left-arm speedster Khaleel Ahmed in the 20th over and scored 53 runs from 25 balls. The run-chase was an exciting one as the match went down right down to the last ball when Manish Pandey took a single off Fabian Allen and helped his team win the encounter.
Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant also scored fifties for their team. In the meantime, Kohli followed the match and didn’t forget to congratulate the team after it’s resounding performance. The 30-year-old took a break from the series and would be back in India’s three-match T20I series against Australia, which gets underway on November 21 at The Gabba in Brisbane.
He has been a vital cog in India’s setup and undoubtedly one the best batsmen the world has ever seen. Expressing his happiness for the national team, the Delhi-born cricketer took to Twitter and wrote, “Great show by the boys to claim another series. Big congratulations to all the boys, the support staff and everyone part of the unit! #IndvWI @BCCI,”
