Indian skipper Virat Kohli has soared the heights of success due to his phenomenal career record. Over a period of time, the 31-year-old’s popularity has reached new heights. Kohli has emerged to become a household name in the country and that was quite evident due to a recent incident in Gobindapur, Kolkata.
After people of Gobindapur came to know about skipper Kohli’s arrival, the streets were flooded with residents in no time. Ahead of the iconic pink-ball Test against Bangladesh, Kohli visited Anandaghar, a home run by Organisation For Friends Energies and Resources (OFFER), for HIV positive kids. The police had a tough time to keep the crowd at a distance.
Around 70 odd kids got the opportunity to meet the prolific right-hander. An elated bunch of kids seemed to forget their daily struggles after they got to spend a few hours with Kohli. An emotional Kohli even shared a heart-warming message for the kids. “Stay happy, that’s the most important thing,” said Kohli as quoted by Telegraph India.
Virat Kohli surpassed MS Dhoni’s captaincy record
Kohli did not have to go back empty-handed as the kids handed over a huge bouquet of roses to him. The bouquet comprised 254 roses, reflecting the 254-run knock he scored against South Africa in the Test at Pune in October. “We are giving you 254 roses. Please score more than that at the Eden,” said an optimistic kid who was confident that Kohli will live up to the expectations. Kohli, who got out cheaply in the first Test against Bangladesh, was reminded of the trust which people have in him.
Recently, Kohli surpassed former captain MS Dhoni by becoming Indian skipper with the most number of innings win. Earlier, MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly were at number one, two and three respectively. Considering the recent form, Kohli has the potential to establish himself as one of the most successful captains that India has ever produced.
The second Test is scheduled to start from 22 November. The wicket at Eden is expected to have a green surface and that would keep India’s in-form pace bowlers interested. It will be an uphill task for the visitors to challenge the top-ranked Test side.
