In an exciting revelation couple of weeks back, Indian skipper Virat Kohli confirmed a one-month deal with English county side, Surrey, ahead of India’s tour to England. The29-year-old will be available for the month of June until the club’s trip to Scarborough to face Yorkshire in what is going to be historic encounter. Historic because this will be the first time a county side will be doing a live coverage.

In an attempt to compete against ECB’s new 100-ball cricket which is speculated to kick off in another two years time, counties are taking a step towards online coverage of their own T20 competition. And Yorkshire will be the first club to take a step forward in this aspect when Surrey visits Scarborough on June 25.

With the presence of a big name like Virat Kohli, the expected number of audience is also likely to be quite high. Counties have witnessed heavy traffic online over the last few years and this step could take them a notch higher. Kohli’s presence will probably only enhance the online traffic for Yorkshire in their historic pursuit.

Most clubs already have two still cameras set for their matches to provide assistance in team analysis but have proven to be rather successful to garner audience on clips of wickets and boundaries which are available on the club’s website and on ECB’s site. However, for Yorkshire, they will have their own cameraman which will cover every aspect of the game and will also be in sync with the BCC Live coverage on radio.

Yorkshire chairman opens up about the developments

According to TimesNow, Yorkshire chairman Steve Denison was quoted saying, “We have been looking at doing this for quite a while. We would like to provide slightly more comprehensive coverage and that would involve having more than the two fixed cameras and would need cameramen to follow the ball.”

He added, “The ideal opportunity is to do it at Scarborough. There will be massive interest in that game even if Kohli was not playing. It is a great game to do it at because it always has big crowds. It is a great and important way for the club to take county cricket to a new audience.
