Virat Kohli’s break between the ODI series against the Windies and the upcoming tour of Australia was marred by a controversy. The Indian captain was criticised by many for speaking to a fan, unconvinced with his batting, in a manner which for many slammed him. Kohli also found some support but overall, the incident left a bad taste in the mouth. The ace cricketer, however, took a fresh stance on Wednesday on the occasion of Children’s Day to reconnect with his fans and admirers.

The 30-year-old cricketer, who has had a fantastic 2018 so far, was shooting for an ad at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai when he posed for pictures with some kids. The children accompanying him were holding autograph bats and pen which gives a fair idea that they rushed to their role model to meet their request for an autograph. Kohli, wearing a blue tee, resembling the Indian team jersey, later posted the photo on Twitter with the caption: “Great to meet these kids! Happy Children’s day”. The tweet received almost 14,000 likes and was retweeted over 1,100 times.

Children’s Day is celebrated on the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister (1889-1964). It is observed on this day since Nehru, also fondly referred to as “Chacha Nehru”, had greatly stressed on fulfilled childhood.

Kohli set to lead India to Australia

Returning to Kohli, the batsman hit three consecutive ODI hundreds against the Windies recently and broke the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the quickest to complete 10,000 runs in the 50-over format. He was rested for the three-match T20I series that followed the ODI series because of the upcoming Australia series and Rohit Sharma led India in his absence to a 3-0 win.

India will be playing Australia in three T20Is, four Tests and three ODIs during the tour Down Under starting November 21 with the first T20I at The Gabba, Brisbane. Kohli, however, has the experience of leading India in Tests in Australia when he chipped in for two matches during the 2014-15 tour.
