Virat Kohli has shut the debate once and for all about the best batsman in the world at the moment with his performance in the ongoing Test series against England. This was the only territory where he was yet to score the runs and on this tour, the champion player has amassed 544 runs so far in eight innings. His exceptional batting has led to the former Windies cricketer Michael Holding to compare him with the legendary Vivian Richards.

Kohli’s aggression and the urge to win every game has stood out so far in his captaincy stint. Though Team India has lost both their overseas Test series this year, they ran the teams like South Africa and England close who were close to unbeatable in their own backyard.

He has all of those things

Michael Holding, while speaking to Pak Passion, showered praises on the Indian captain and felt that he has all the skills which Viv Richards had during his playing days. He was of the opinion that Virat Kohli has skill and temperament in abundance which made him stand out among the others in the team.

“He’s a great player, he is confident, he believes in himself. He reminds me a lot of Viv Richards, his belief, on top of skill, with a great temperament. He has all of those things. There are many things you need to become a great batsman. One is that you obviously have to have the skill. Secondly, you have to have good temperament. He has both in abundance,” he said.

Moreover, he recalled the early part of the Test series when the conditions for batting were extremely tough. But Kohli was still managing to score runs. His 149 at Edgbaston was one of the top knocks which unfortunately wasn’t enough to win a game for his team. However, Holding hailed his temperament to let go of the good deliveries out of his mind and concentrate on the next one.

“He has a lot of skill and he has great temperament. Nothing worries him, even when he was batting in the first 2 Tests against England when his team was struggling at various points, he did not look worried and he looked as if he was in control of the situation. A ball would go past the edge of his bat and you would see him smiling because he has that great temperament to handle situations and the pressure and use his skills to produce the goods. He’s a great player, he is confident, he believes in himself,” the 64-year-old concluded.
