Virat Kohli reprimanded for slow over-rate against CSK

If losing to the Chennai Super Kings at the Chinnaswamy, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli has yet another problem to deal with. The slow over-rate against MS Dhoni’s ‘Yello Submarine’ of sorts was as slow as they came, something the match referee had to do something about, thereby reprimanding the RCB skipper. Since this was his first offence, the 29-year old was fined just INR 12 Lakh.

Having lost the toss and being put into bat first, the Challengers did what they do best by smashing a well-oiled CSK bowling unit all around the park. Although they did indeed fall apart towards the close of the innings, it seemed as though the total beyond the 200-run mark was indeed something they could defend.

Initially, the bowlers also did a decent job with Umesh Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal managing to restrict the batsmen and keep the Super Kings under the cosh. However, some fantastic batting from Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni eventually ensured that the visitors did reach their total of 206, something that the latter concluded with a six to conclude proceedings.

Speaking in the post-match presentation, a rather dejected Virat Kohli came away with a disappointing speech to top it all off. While he did indeed defend his players, he went ahead and stated that this defeat was indeed one of the most difficult ones to swallow, especially given the fact that the Challengers were on the ascendency in the first 10 overs of the CSK innings.

“If we cannot defend even 200, it’s a problem somewhere. It hurts at the moment, very tough for us to swallow but a great game for Chennai,” Kohli had said in the post-match presentation.
