Virat Kohli reveals how Arun Jaitley fostered him after his father's demise

Kohli has now become the youngest active cricketer to be bestowed with the honour of a stand named after him.

Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper has faced lots of ups and downs throughout his cricketing career in different aspects on and off the field. But he has lived up to the expectation of his fans over the years. Today he is acclaimed as one of the best cricketers that are actively accelerating in this game. On Thursday, DDCA named a stand after Kohli as an honour to his contribution to Indian cricket so far.

Ever since making his international debut in 2008, Kohli has established his credentials as one of the best batsmen in the world as he continues to shatter records one after another. In the last 8 years, he has turned himself into a run machine for India. At the age of 30, he has been compared with the greats like Sir Viv Richards and Sachin Tendulkar which is a big thing for any player.

In the stadium renaming ceremony, Delhi and DDCA changed the name of Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium to Arun Jaitley as well as in showing gratitude towards Virat Kohli for his enormous contribution for the Indian cricket, they also unveiled a new pavilion stand bearing Indian skipper’s name.

After being honoured, Virat Kohli thanked board members and also revealed how former Finance minister and DDCA President Arun Jaitley, had a big influence on his career. In 2006, on the day of his father’s demise, the 18-year-old Kohli was playing for Delhi against Karnataka in a Ranji Trophy game where he went on to score 90 runs. After seeing his determination Arun Jaitley visited his home and also motivated him to move forward.

It is more special

“It is more special. It is happening at the same time as the stadium being named after Arun Jaitley Ji,” Kohli was quoted as saying Deccan Chronicle. During the ceremony, the current DDCA President Rajat Sharma said, “We are happy to honour him for achieving certain milestones and unbeatable captaincy record and his outstanding contribution to world cricket”.

Kohli is known for shattering the batting records on the ground and now he has become the youngest active cricketer to be bestowed with the honour of a stand named after him.
