Cricket is a sport that is away from none. And one common platform to talk about the game is social media, especially Twitter. The game and the medium connect people of common interest with each other as they indulge in some serious, and some hilarious conversations. The craze for cricket in India is unparalleled when compared to the interest generated by other sporting activities in the country.

Cricket is a sport that takes place across all seasons and keeps the fans active for 365 days. It is no less than a festival in the country, especially when it’s Team India playing, or the Indian Premier League (IPL). People share their views and opinions on Twitter and thus, of more than 96.2M tweets around cricket in India, there were five most mentioned Twitter Handles and Hashtags in Cricket from January 1, 2021, to January 1, 2022.

According to Twitter India, the data clearly shows how popular the three cricketers- Virat, Dhoni, and Rohit are in India, apart from the craze of Dhoni’s franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and the main reason behind the successful conduct of the game- The BCCI. Of the three cricketers, Virat and Rohit have been a part of the Indian Cricket Team as well, whereas MS Dhoni has only played two months of cricket at the IPL 2021.

Three out of the top five hashtags revolve around the Chennai-based IPL franchise. Notably, CSK has the most number of followers on Twitter among all other teams. Since MS Dhoni announced his retirement, the only place he plays is the IPL, and he led his team to a fourth IPL title in the year 2021. Team India had a good time on the field as they were a part of multiple games around the year, including the T20 World Cup.
